The unspoken truths
Congratulations!!! You are bringing home your bundle of joy! This new baby will light up your life in ways that you never knew were possible.
With all the "experts" out there telling you everything that you need to know about your new baby I'm going to tell you about the unspoken truths that really happen.
First of all... the only thing that this baby will get from it's parents are its looks. Believe it or not this little blob that you just brought home will grow into its own human. You can try to mold him into a something but ultimately this tiny person has his own personality. Get use to it. If you are super out going you will probably end up with a shy child. If you are so uncoordinated and can barely kick a ball, you'll get a super star athlete. It's just the way it is.
Next.... at some point you really will think your baby has been taken over by a demon. Weird noises will come from your child as well as all sorts of unnatural body fluids and there will be projectile vomiting. You'll swear that he was 12 feet from the wall and yet that is where all the vomit landed. It will pass. And your child will again be your precious little one. It's a right of passage for all new parents to try to figure out where the green stuff that is all over the baby actually came from.
Now well meaning people will tell you to sleep when the baby sleeps.... Two problems with that. If you have more than one child at home good luck with that. As soon as you get the baby to sleep and think you are going to lay down that's when the toddler will figure out how to unlock all 12 locks you have on your front door and escape. Or he will decided that he needs a bath and the toilet already has water in it. No... when you have extra kids at home {who would normally watch TV} with a new baby will all of a sudden need you every second that the baby is sleeping.... even if dad is home. And the other... If baby is the only one you'll think great he's sleeping I'm going to lay down.... Then with out fail every person and the dog will come to the door. You'll get packages, well meaning friends, a stray dog that keeps scratching. Face it sleeping when the baby sleeps is a ridiculous thought.
The term "Baby Proofing" is in my opinion a dumb thought. When have you ever seen a newborn launch himself out of someone's arms to put a knife in an electrical outlet??? Yeah... me neither. Toddler Proofing is a better term. By all means be safe, I'm not saying to leave open flames all over your house and hope that nothing happens. But be realistic in your expectations. If you don't get all the outlets covered and cupboards locked before baby comes home from the hospital it's ok. You'll have time to do that. Besides... all the baby proofing in your home that you do is more to irritate you than it is to keep the child safe. Kids... even little one are smarter than we give them credit for, they are the ones that can figure out the "Child Safety Locks" while we parents have to use a hammer to get things open.
Just don't dress the baby.... I mean in nice clothes any way. It's cute and all but really, the Baby Law states that "If I am in a nice outfit, especially something that is all white, hand made, or an antique I must have a massive blowout that requires a while box of wipes and an bath for both me and the person changing me." I'm serious leave a baby in a onesie or just a sleeper. Nice outfit means poop for days! If you are going to do pictures "try" to trick the child and not get him dressed until 10 seconds before the picture is taken and then quickly undress him. But be advised... they are smart and have supplies ready to handle the unexpected.
Speaking of poop, up until this point all things poop has been a private matter. But as soon as you have a baby it becomes an open topic of conversation. How many times your child does or doesn't poop, the color of it, the smell of it.... yes, you'll go there. And.... you'll be amazed that you will be able to smell your kid from across the room, you'll be able to pick him out from a dozen kids, and know exactly how much he pooped. And when you are having an off day you won't think twice about picking your kid up to smell his butt. {and we always talk about how gross dogs are for smelling butts.... } And then in the toddler years you will celebrating when the little one poops in the toilet. Phone calls will be made, Facebook statuses will be updated. Poop is now a part of your daily life.
Never say "I will never".... You'll eat those words so fast. You say 'I will never let the baby fall asleep in my arms' next think you know you are out on the couch with the baby on your chest while both of you are sleeping because this is how anyone in the house will ever have a chance to sleep again {see reason above for not sleeping} You say 'I will never put a leash on my child' and you will end up with a wandering child that is like Houdini when it comes to escaping.... remember they are their own person. You say 'I will never'... the baby will help you change that.
This is a wonderful time! Babies are awesome!! Except for when they aren't. Don't feel bad if you have a bad day. It's ok to hand the baby off to someone else and go for a walk or take a shower or even have sex with your husband. I'm serious. I had a friend call me and ask me to take her baby for a while because she just needed to be with her husband without feeling guilty that the baby was being unattended in the next room. They cry and sometimes that's all they do for no reason. It will pass... I promise you that you will not send your sweet child off to college still crying for no reason.
Please.... Please.... have realistic expectations for yourself. TV mom are not real, Celebrity moms have help. You are a real person. If all you accomplish today is to brush your teeth celebrate that! The next day..... or month will be better. The mom that you see who seems to have it all put together... Yeah, the truth is she hasn't showered in 4 days and after she got in the car realized that she wasn't wearing shoes. Don't compare yourself with anyone. Babies should bring joy... sometimes they won't... it's true... but comparing yourself to someone else will will NEVER bring joy.
As a mom of 5... soon to be 6 kids the "experts" know nothing.... these are the real things about babies!!
{Tell me what would you add to this list??}

Are we there yet?
On Friday we usually have pizza and a movie... on the watch list tonight, WALL~E. A cute movie and it was so fun to watch Benji watch the movie for the first time.
As I was watching the movie with my brood, I noticed something.... something very sad.
This movie is set in the distant, but not so unrealistic future...
The opening of this movie you see a robot cleaning up and finding random pieces of garbage that he collects as his treasures... garbage that we left behind
The movie goes one {if you haven't seen it, you should it's a cute movie..}
Anyway, they get to the ship that is in outer space called the Axiom. And here is where I start seeing things.
First, everyone is the same, everyone has the same clothes, and sitting in the same chairs. I would bet that everyone has the same living conditions as everyone else.... hum.... sound familiar?? It does to me. Today every one is calling for equality, whether it is worked for or not, whether you were born in the country or not, whether you are smart or not.... everyone needs to be equal.
Next you see people sitting next to each other talking to each other through what we would call video chat. True story... I saw two girls sitting on oppisite side of the room texting each other {I asked who they were texting, that's how I knew} how sad that we live in world were face to face communications are becoming less and less.
Then there is the Captain, he tries to figure out what a manual is. A robot shows him how to open a book. Think of today, now I love technology as much as the next person. And I'm thankful that our books are being stored in a digital way, but do you think there could be a time when one may not even know what to do with a book??
We see people playing virtual games of tennis and golf. All they are doing is pushing a button on their screen. How familiar... there are video games of sports now... you don't even have to leave your house to play a round of golf or a game of baseball, you can do it all from the comfort of you couch. What ever happen to playing a game of kickball in the street with all the neighbor kids?
There's the shakes that people are sucking from.... I did a whole post on this topic a year ago. It's so easy now to blend your meal into a shake form and drink it down. What ever happen to real food? What happen to fruits and vegetables being best for you?? Now it's powder out of a can and mixed with water is what is suppose to be better for you than an apple or a carrot??
When the Axiom makes it back to Earth the Captain is excited to plant in the ground the plant that was found and brought to the ship.... they were going to grow tomatoes "and pizza". It's funny and the boys laughed at it, we all know that pizza doesn't grow. But what about the rest of our food? Do we really know where it comes from? Sadly I do know kids that don't know what animal produces beef. Everything just comes from the store.
And then there is the big store that everything comes from. In the movie it is called 'Buy n Large'. This mega corporation has taken over and everything that is used comes from this store. Hummmm... I dare to say a lot like, oh I don't know, say Walmart. Honestly, I don't like going to Walmart at all!!! But they have everything and so when I am with all 5 boys and I need to pick up groceries, and paper for the printer, and socks for the boys, and a roll of ribbon for a project, and.... and.... and.... They have everything for a truly one stop shopping. Do you ever think Walmart will truly take over, putting everyone else out of business?? I hope not, but they have created a niche for our fast paced society to have everything in one spot.
Yes, everything in the movie WALL~E is exaggerated but I think there are some... a lot... of truth to it.... and not in a good way.
What do you think.... am I right? A little maybe? Or do you think I am totally off base?

Whose Bright Idea Was This?
Here I come with my soap box again...
Who was the guy that thought up Valentine's Day? I mean really... do you need a specific day to tell the person you love that you love them? I'm not complaining because I didn't get anything, on the contrary, Steve took me to a really nice dinner. But during dinner I decided that this day was a waste of a holiday. I love Steve so much (que music... Truely, Madly, Deeply) so why do I need a day to celebrate it. I do it everyday. It seems to me that Valentine's Day is just a day... not to celebrate love, but to say "Hey... you are single AGAIN this year!" how sad is that? I think that Valentine's Day is just a way to exploit the people and I guess the time between Christmas and Easter so they threw in Valentine's Day.
Ok, it's getting late and I'm going to start not making sense. The jist of this was to day that I think that Valentine's Day is a dumb holiday, and that I love Steve more than just one day a year.

No More Problems in the World....
Ok, I want you to picture me standing on my soap box, ok maybe two of them (I'm kinda short).
I was listening to the news the other day and I was wanting to hear what was said about Mitt Romney winning the Michigan primaries vote(I went to bed before I could hear what Mitt said). Well.... incase you missed it we are not voting any more, nor is the war in Iraq going (bring all the troops home men), the poverty problem has all been solved and I guess we found the cure for all cancers in the world. Do you know how I know this. Because when I turned on the News they were talking about Tom Cruise!!!! Do we seriously not have anything better to worry about than Tom Cruise. So because World Peace had been found ( I don't know why that wasn't reported) I left it on to see what they were saying about him that was so important. This is bits of what I caught while I was dressing children and wondering if I should still give food to the food banks, because you know, the hungry are all full now. Ok, they were talking about (among other things) was Tom being second in command in his church, The Church of Scientology. Why this is a big deal I don't know. They were also making comments about his religion. Now this isn't something I agree with or am interested in but really people, he's not killing anyone, or braking any laws so why are we so concerned with him. It goes back to the 11th Article of Faith -We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may. Yes, I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of latter Day Saint (Mormons), and I worship how I see fit, why can't we extend that right to others with out bashing there religion. Like I said he's not hurting anyone.
Ok, so the next thing I hear is that Suri (Tom and Katie's daughter) is not Tom's. That Katie was inseminated with someone else's sperm. Seriously people.... doesn't this happen everyday, if it is true. What does it matter? I mean I guess this is important if the oceans are all clean now, and there's no more pollution in them. Or since we no longer have to worry about children getting kidnapped.
Here's another thing getting back to the elections. Do you know WHAT you are voting for? Not who but WHAT. What do the candidates stand for? What is there background. What is there experience? How do they present themselves in a debate? We are not voting for homecoming king (or queen) this is then next person to be at the head of our country. Notice I DIDN'T say running our country, because if you forgot it's "By the people, for the people." If you don't like what is going on get out there and do something. If you don't know how figure it out. Why are we letting the few loudest people out there decide for the rest of us. And why are we voting on things like race, religion, and sex. What ever happen to "best man for the the job." Do you even know who is running and what they stand for, what there platform is, what they plan to do with our country the next 4 years and why? My next question is WHY NOT. yeah, yeah, you're busy, I know, aren't we all. But still this is your responsibility as citizens of this nation to help take care of it and do what is best for it. (If you are not a citizen go back to your own county, harsh I know but I live in a boarder town and I don't appreciate my friends getting shot at just so you can have a piece of the pie... do it legally) By taking a stand we can make a difference. Here's another question... why do you vote the way you do? Because you where brought up to be a Democrat or Republican? Because your favorite celebrity or musician is one way or the other? Please!!! Take a stand of your own. There is nothing wrong with voting the same way as another person but do it for your own reasons not theirs.
Here is the links to the major candidates (in alphabetic order) the first is there Official home web page and the next is a bio of there life. There... I did the work for you, all you have to do now is to read it.
-Hillary Clinton Official site, Hillary's bio
-Mike Huckabee official site, Mike's bio
-John McCain Official site, John's bio
-Barack Obama Official site, Barack's bio
-Mitt Romney Official site, Mitt's bio
Change does not come when we sit around and wait for it. And YES, you are responsible for what happens here.
Ok, I think I'm done.... You can now picture me picking up the two boxes and taking them with me (I'm sure I'll be on them again) and walking away.
Oh, by the way I guess the war is not over because the 142 National Guard out of Utah is deploying again. Oh, and yup, we still have poverty and diseases, sorry to build your hopes up and then dash them.
